Network Administrator/IT Manager

The Network Coordinator administers the data network. The responsibilities include:
  • Administer a Windows domain.
    • Install and administer Windows primary and backup domain controllers.
    • Add users, groups, directory and file permissions to server resources.
  • Administer Exchange Services to clients on the network.
  • Advise the Support Technician in the installation of computers using Windows operating system.
  • Install and configure security measures for the network, including the latest service packs and fixes.
  • Install and configure printer services.
  • Troubleshoot network and user problems on client workstations.
  • Download all security patches for servers.
  • Plan for the implementation of security patches for client workstations.
  • Advises Educational Technology/Library Media Director in the purchase of hardware, utilities, and software.
  • Responsible for the design, installation, management and maintenance of the Waltham Public School network.
  • Promotes growth of network use by supporting and training teachers and administrative staff.
  • Implements administrative and curriculum applications.
  • Manages the installation, operation, and maintenance of logical/physical network at ten facilities.
  • Provides technical support to users of network facilities.
  • Monitors system and network performance.
  • Maintains system and network security.
  • Provides archive, backup, and disaster-recovery and retrieval procedures for all computer systems.

Technicians
This 12-month position provides in-house set-up and support for all computer equipment. The technician is responsible for all set-up and repairs for computer CPUs, as well as supporting staff in the use of such equipment. The Support Technician maintains a database of new equipment, as well as maintenance records for existing equipment. The Support Technician reports to IT Manager.

Responsible for 2155 computers which includes 21 labs, 100 + laptops. Also responsible for installation of scanners, digital cameras, Smartboards, Smartcarts, PDAs, AlphaSmart keyboards and Mimios in an 9 school district.
  • Create and update all images for computers / laptops* – including the constant reimaging of 20 labs with updated images

Responsible for overseeing the creation of all images by outside vendor, integrity of deployment, accurate inventory of equipment, security of equipment, resolving all issues as they arise, and ensure vendors complete all responsibilities and tasks in a timely manner.

  • Identify all classrooms without internet access or computers and ensure both in new rooms
  • Identify all classrooms with below minimum standard equipment and upgrade.
  • Reconfigure all computer names and IPs to conform to the WPS name and IP conventions
  • Update all data bases to reflect movement of equipment
  • Redistribute all equipment meeting WPS minimum standards
  • Strategize, prioritize and coordinate the removal, redistribution, upgrades and discarding of all computer equipment from old schools
